Happy Birthday Sweet Girls

Today is the Girl's Second Birthday. It wasn't the day that I had hoped for, but it was good just the same.

My Dad has been in ICU for several days and between that and school starting this week I haven't had much time to think or prepare for today. I knew I didn't want to throw a party again, but I did want to do something...and I feel like I don't feel like we did anything!

Mr. K and I did manage to get out to the cemetery and spend a few hours, even with the extreme heat, just sitting and talking to the girls.

I hate that things have been so chaotic, I don't feel like we did enough to remember them today, and that makes me sad.

I miss and love them as much as ever, some days it feels like and eternity and others it seams as if it was only yesterday. Today may not have been the day I was hoping for, but I spent it with Mr. K and we remembered our girls, and that is all that matters.

Back to work I go...

Tomorrow, I go back to work! It is hard to believe that I have had almost the entire summer off, how is that possible...I don't feel like I have anything to show for it! When May rolled around and I was thinking about all the things I was going to do this summer I had a really long list, and yes some of them got done, but the big things didn't! I wanted to paint my bedroom, find/buy/install vinyl decals in the bathroom and living room, paint the kitchen cabinets, hang drapes in the guest room, and a few more random things. I did get the garage cleaned out and the pedestals put on the washer and dryer and that was a BIG deal! I am glad we got that done, but still I wanted to do more.

The one thing I know I have done is shop, Shop and SHOP some more! My closet is beyond full and Mr.K has more clothes than he has ever had in his life, I think! The thing is I keep finding incredible deals on clothes, so I keep buying them. I will admit, I am a compulsive shopper! When I am sad or down I shop...A LOT! And this summer is prof of that, I am pretty sure I shopped ever day! The one week I didn't is the week we went on vacation! (I really need to get around to posting those pictures!)

I lastnight while getting a few things organized for me to go back to work is that I really am sad. I am sad that I don't post on here more often. I am sad that I am not pregnant. I am sad that my girls are not here. I am sad that there second birthday is 24 days away and for the life of me I do not know what I want to do to celebrate them! How is it possible that it has been almost two years? It doesn't seam possible at ALL! And it sure is not fair! I miss them so much, I miss them so much that I cried in the grocery store last week when a mom yelled at her little girl. I even had to pull in to a parking lot and cry when I saw an SUV with a bumper sticker that said "Got Twins?", I sat there and cried for so long that the security officer at the shopping center came over to check on me!

I really want to be shopping for MyGirls, I want to be finding all kinds of AMAZING deals on things for them! I don't want to just start crying at random anymore! I don't like crying at random! And I want my mom to stop looking at me like I am crazy, when I buy two pink windsocks to take to the cemetery. Yes Mom, it is normal (I guess) so stop judging me and get over it!

Maybe I just have to much free time on my hands. Maybe this will stop when school goes back and I get busy again.

Just a little Hello!

I started my job well over a month ago, I guess...and it is, well, nice! I like getting up and going to work and I like having a job where people don't freak out if something waits until tomorrow! But we will see if that keeps up! But so far so good!

The one bad thing about the job is that it has sent my heart and brain in to over drive....I know what I want and I know it just isn't the right time yet! But it hasn't stopped me from wanting. I guess in the back of my mind I thought a job would be like a magic wand and fix everything instantly! But it hasn't, but it is a start!

The best part of my job, so far, is the people I work with. They are all genuinely nice. And compassionate. A week or so ago I broke down and told my "boss" (and I use the word boss loosely) about TheGirls. I thought I would get threw it with out crying, but her reaction made me lose my composure and I started crying. She was so nice and thoughtful about the situation...it made me feel welcome and not like I use to. I definitely didn't feel like the elephant in the room. The even funny part is that she said to me later that she would never have guessed that something tragic had ever happened to me, that my personality is so warm and friendly that she never would have thought anything like that! And that made me feel good, because I rarely feel like the old me anymore, but maybe the new me is just as good in the right setting!

I have been finding it really hard to find time to blog but I have been able to check in on most of you a few times a week...and I promise I will get back to commenting soon! I just need to get better a prioritizing my time at night, it is a work in progress!

One other thing has been going on lately...and I am afraid I need to ask you all for a favor. My Dad has been having some issues for a few months now. He has seen his Dr and been in the hospital for testing and they could never figure out what was going on. That is until last week, they found a large tumor consuming more than half of his bladder. Yesterday we learned that he has Stage 3 bladder cancer. On one hand I am glad that he finally has a diagnosis but on the other I am terrified. Luckily we live in Houston and we have one of the countries best Cancer facilities! He is set to see the head of the urology department next week. And we are hoping for some good news, because we really haven't been told a whole lot at this point. Please keep us in your thoughts or prayers, I know we can use them.

Well I haven't started my new job yet because of some crazy finger print snafu and the felon! Go figure! Plus on top of it all the woman in HR is being a real pain in the you know what, I think she thinks I really am the felon! And she keeps trying to say that I am going to be paid less than I actually am! Which yesterday made me have a little panic attack! I even started thinking about turning down the job! Yikes!

In other news...
I yelled at my mom, and it made me cry! I'm going to work for a local school district, not as a teacher, and my mom (and the rest of my family) thinks I should get my certification and teach. Granted two years ago I would have done it, no questions asked...but today I don't want too. I don't know if I could spend all day with someone else's children. What if a parent is mean to a child? Or doesn't treat a child right? I honestly don't think I could handle it...so for now, I'm not going to teach. I might decide one day that I want to, and I will do it, but for now, I don't! But when my mom brought it up for the millionth time, I just let her have it. I told her it wasn't fair of her to keep asking me to do something I didn't want to do and did she not understand how it makes me feel to think about teaching and encouraging a strangers child when I want to be doing that with My Girls? For once it made her shut up! It felt good to shut her up but at the same time I finally admitted what I had been thinking for a long time now and that made me cry.

But what yesterday did I help me to see is that I need to stop worrying so much about what people say and think about me and just be me, whoever that is now. Because I have spent way to much time and energy avoiding telling so many people how I really feel, and I don't want to do it anymore! It is exhausting!

Some days I want to go back to the fun loving, outgoing, creative, shopaholic that I used to be. Some days I see glimpses of her and I realize how much I miss her. I wonder if my friends and family miss her too...

My Birthday

Friday was my Birthday. I have always loved my Birthday; my parents made a point to differentiate between it and Christmas and in doing so made it a big deal. I loved it, I still do! In my mind your birthday should be the one day that you can do anything you want to and you should LOVE it!
My birthday also happens to be The Girls official due date, their original due date was Christmas Day but was changed to my Birthday at our 12 week ultrasound which Mr.K had predicted at our very first visit. Even though we knew there was no way I would make it to my due date and I had been "penciled in" to be induced on the 18th of November, I still always hoped to share my birthday with My Girls. And if you know me...you know I don't share, but still I couldn't imagine anything better! Giving Birth on my Birthday, sounds pretty amazing to me!
Last year on my Birthday I was a wreck, not only because I so badly wanted The Girls but because I had lost my job the day before. To tell the truth, I don't remember any of it! This year though I anticipated my Birthday with a bit of happiness, I have come so far in my grief and I have to admit I think I owe a lot of that to all of you. I woke up early that morning with sadness but as Mr.K and I ate breakfast and watched Maggie play I thought of My Girls and smiled...I miss them but I know they are loved and I know they are happy in heaven, and it is a wonderful place to be.

Adison & Lillian's First Birthday Party

I know I am behind...so please bear with me while I catch you up!

The Girl's Birthday Party was Wonderful! I could not have asked for better friends and family to support us that day!

Thanks to the Lovely Lola Red, we have some wonderful shots of the evening to remember it better!
I remembered everything...except mine and Mr.K's cards! I felt so guilty, but it worked out just fine...I had several extra blank cards. The Balloons they went off with out a hitch...well most of them!I have to admit it was really funny to watch Mr. K and T get them down! After we watched the balloons float far far away, we went home for dinner and cupcakes. We lit Birthday candles and started to sing Happy Birthday but I got a little emotional so we didn't. I really wanted to, but it made me so sad when I started thinking about it! I really loved these Rainbow Cupcakes that Monica made for Jack so I thought I would make some for the girls!

Monica's turned out a lot better then mine but I still enjoyed making them and they were just perfect for the girls Birthday!

If I did not mention it before I really had a wonderful day with my friends and family and I am so thankful for all of you! And all of your support, it means the world to the both Mr.K and I!

Happy Birthday My Sweet Girls - Day One!

So like most crazy Americans, or women in general, I believe birthdays should be celebrated for DAYS!
This morning Mr.K and I started The Girls Birthday Celebration! We lit a candle for each girl at the moment they were born one year ago! It has been a pretty peaceful so far, we have had a couple calls and texts from friends and family and a really nice card arrived in the mail from a dear friend. When it gets a little cooler this evening we plan on heading out to the cemetery to just sit for a bit. But for now the candles will have to do...

Happy Birthday My Sweet Girls, we Love and Miss you both so very much!
Thank You Carly for Adison and Lillian's Name's in the sand, we love them!

The Roses in my Yard!

So I thought I would post pictures of the roses that are outside my kitchen window, I talked about them in my last post! I took these a few days ago and since they have grown a lot...if it clears up later I will take some more pictures of them later! When I got out there the other day to take these pictures I noticed that in the wind or something the roses had twisted together! It made me smile! But any way...Enjoy!!

Adison Grace & Lillian Marie

Well just because I have been thinking a LOT about that crazy day last August, and we are coming up on 6 months, I can’t believe it has gone by so fast! I thought I would finally post our story.

Last spring, Mr. K and I realized, quite abruptly that I was pregnant. So we quickly made an appointment to see my Dr. And two days later it was confirmed, we were expecting our first two children, twin girls! We were super excited! We couldn’t wait to tell our family and friends! And I couldn’t wait to SHOP! From the very first day we did everything just like we should…and it was a pretty typical pregnancy. But because of the fact it was twins we would see my OB one week and the specialist the next and everything seemed to be going fine. On Monday morning, August 25, 2008, I woke up at about 5am and I was having these horrible pains that I thought felt like what contractions would feel like, but I was not sure. Nothing had changed and the girls were moving regularly so I thought it would be OK, but as I started to get ready for work it got worse...a lot worse! So Mr. K and I decided that we would go to the Dr instead of work. We called from the car on the way and they were waiting on us when we go there. They hooked me up to the monitor and did an ultra sound and everything was normal and there was no movement of my uterus or my cervix. But the girls had grown a lot so we were assured that it was just normal growth pains. I went home for the rest of the day and just took it easy. Tuesday was normal and the pain seemed to stop until about 6pm. And all of the sudden it started again and it was very intense. But I had an appointment with the specialist the following morning so I was not too worried, at first. About 130am I was trying to get comfortable and relax in bed and my water broke and the girls started moving like crazy...I was terrified. We quickly threw a bag together and hopped in the car, we made it all the way to Texas Women's in less than 15 minutes. When we got there they took me right in to a room and started hooking me up to a monitor to find their heart beats, which they found, with some trouble, but not any more than normal. As one nurse was moving the monitor around the other was asking me questions, ridiculous questions, like if Mr. K ever hit me and were we happy, all I could think about was we didn't have car seats! At that point I had no idea. After they found the heart beats they did an exam and the nurse looked at me in horror and said she would be right back. Not two minutes later the on call Dr was in the room with about 3 specialists to do a second exam. At this point they told us that Baby A (Adison) was outside of the whom and would be delivered within the next few hours. At this point they gave us all of the statistics about the girls being born at 23 weeks and told us to call our family. Kevin and I went over and over it in our heads we just didn't believe it, there was just no way was this happening. My parents got there just before 6am and Mr. K’s Dad about 730am. Just after 6am my OB arrived, Dr. R, he just sat with us for a while and then he went over everything with us, which was a lot more helpful. He explained that it seemed I had an incompetent cervix, something I had only briefly read about. The only thing I heard at that point was “next time” we can do this or that…I didn’t care about ‘NEXT TIME”…I wanted it THIS TIME!!! Beautiful little Adison Grace was born sleeping at 8:02am, after a very easy labor. It was surreal. It still is. We held her for a while and then had our family come back in so they could meet her and it was the hardest thing I had ever done, introducing my little girl to her family…a family that would never fully get to know her. Dr. R came in and as he was telling us that baby B (Lillian) looked like she would sit tight for a while and we might be able to go a few more days before delivering her in hopes that she could grow and get stronger, Lillian decided that she wasn’t going to stay put, if her sister was out she was going to be too, just after 930am my contractions started again. And after what seemed like agony precious Lillian Marie was born at 11am. She cried and we couldn't believe it! Could this really be happening? It only lasted a few seconds and just a moment later Mr. K and I held her as she took her final breath, she was gone. They were both gone and we were devastated. What were we going to do? How is this possible? Why would God let something like this happen? But it has! The staff at the hospital was so great! We could not have asked for better nurses, Dr's or staff. They made us these great memory boxes with the girls foot prints and hand prints and pictures. They dressed them in the most wonderful little dresses and wrapped them in, blankets made by volunteers. They brought them in again all dressed and cleaned up. And we kept them with us and cried with our families as we took time holding them and saying our goodbyes. It was so hard leaving the hospital and I was not sure I could do it, but somehow we managed. The following Tuesday we buried the girls by Mr. K’s brother and grandparents. The last 6 months, have been hard…Thanksgiving, their due date, Christmas, New Years. But life is going on, slowly but surely…I still have days were I don’t believe any of this happened to us, but it has! And it hurts!
