What to Do?

So every time Mr. K and I go to the Big D, we talk about moving. We like Houston just fine, but we really wouldn't mind moving. It would be nice to be somewhere new. And not just Dallas, we have even considered San Antonio or Austin. Any way let me get to the point! This weekend we really REALLY realized that we want to get out of Houston. And we actually have the opportunity, well sorta But when Mr. K first said something about it I said NO! Absolutely NOT! I can't imagine moving away anymore! I mean the girls are here, we live less than 20 minuets from the cemetery...I can go out there when ever I want, and I do! But if we moved away we would be 4 or more hours from the cemetery. And I know that's not very far, but when compared to where we are now...it seams unbearable! Mr.K said that if we move he would never hesitate to drive me down if we ever needed to and I like that! Mr.K and I really like the idea of being closer to particular friends and family! And none of them live in Houston. I know that we would come here regularly because my parents are here and the Old Man is not far, but it will still be different than what we have now. So this my question...I know some of you live a good distance from where your child or children are buried, and how do you feel about it?

Memorial Day

Mr. K and I had a really nice weekend.
Every year we go to my see my family in Dallas and it is always a lot of fun!
Last year's Memorial Day Gathering was when we spilled the beans about the girls. And it was so much fun, I had just really started to show and we took all of the ultrasound pictures. It was really fun! I mean who doesn't like to be the center of attention!
It didn't even occur to me what last year had been like until Mr. K and I were in the car, at one point I eve asked him if we could turn around! We spent most of our time with B&D and my other cousin Beth Anne, the best thing about the three of them is that they get it! They actually acknowledge the girls and they make sure we know it!
While we were in Dallas we learned that one of my cousins is expecting her forth child. I have VERY mixed feelings about it! And I feel really bad about it! I have always worried about her children and their well being, but after seeing them on Saturday I felt worse and I almost had a panic attack! It also made me sad because it really hit how much I wished the girls would have been there! My parents were there and I really noticed how proud they are of Colt. I wish my parents had that with Adison and Lillian! I wish Adison and Lillian had that with my parents!
On Sunday we drove to Bryan College Station for Mr. K's family gathering! It was a blast!! There were so many people! And The Old Man (Mr.K's Dad) had such a blast! He really likes getting people together and being with family, even if he doesn't like people! But a good family friend came with her grandchildren...I have never seen the Old Man so excited! He loves kids, and loves having them on the farm! He took them all on a hay ride and I think he was more excited then the kids! Being with Mr.K's family made me miss the girls, but at the same time it made me realize that one day Mr.K and I will try again, but in the mean time we have a lot of things we should be thankful for. Even if the one thing I want the most is a lifetime away!

Oh What A Week It Has Been!

And Yes I know it is ONLY Wednesday! I had such high hopes for an easy week, but so far I have been completely WRONG!

On Saturday I got a notice in the mail clearing me of my so called Criminal Activities! Woo Who! So straight away Monday morning I phoned the school district HR superintendent, Mr. D and made an appointment to see him an hour later. I was totally psyched! But, the general HR secretary had not been made aware that I was actually supposed to speak with Mr. D, so she just took my papers and told me he was not in the office! I repeatedly told her that I had an appointment, but she just kept saying I wasn't on the schedule! I didn't want to get mad so I said thank you, and left. I drove home...angry and disappointed in myself for giving up so easily! But I get home and low and behold...He called! He apologized for the secretary and said to meet him after lunch...that didn't happen either! I waited for the better part of an hour to find out that he had been called to an emergency meeting...but the secretary didn't bother telling me that! Apparently she had gotten in to some trouble for her behavior that morning and decided that I should pay for it!

When I finally did get home, I go to see my Granny, she hasn't been feeling well and she had gone to her PCP that morning! I get over there and she is all in a huff....She has Lymphedema in her left leg and she hates to see the Dr. that her PCP recommends, so she refuses to go! It is hard to make an 83 year old woman do anything she doesn't want to do! Apparently the PCP told her she had to see the specialist or they would have to cut off her leg! I'm sure he did this to scare her more than anything but she was still refusing to see the specialist! Hoping to appease her I got online and looked for a different Specialist to take her to, luckily there is an excellent clinic at Herman Hospital in the Medical Center! So I got her to agree to go and called to make an appointment! They happened to have a cancellation for 8am Tuesday morning, so I took it! I must not have been thinking at that point...You have to arrive at least 15 minuets prior to your appointment time, and it would take us the better part of an hour to get down there, meaning we would need to leave the house before 7am! But I want her to get better, so I did it!
The ride down there was a breeze, she slept more than half of the way! But the Hospital campus is so large she could not walk it, so they got her a wheel chair...they told her she was so lucky to have me to push her around! I didn't feel so lucky!
What started out to be a two hour appointment turned into a day long event! We were all over the hospital for 7, oh yes 7, hours! The worst part of it was she refused to hold her own purse, so I got to hold it, it is not very easy to hold two purses and push a wheel chair! But I will say that she behaved, for the most part! I am the only person she stuck her tongue out at, so in my book it was a good day!
On top of all of this, our wedding prints FINALLY arrived yesterday (we have been waiting on them for more than three months) so we went straight away pick them up! My Dad has been a little hostel about the whole situation because he didn't really like the photographer to begin with and he hates to wait for anything! So after Mr. K got home from work we went back into town to meet the photographer...it was uneventful, we were there less than 5 minuets! And we went straight home! I didn't feel like dividing them all out when we got back...so I didn't! But just before 9 my mom calls, the entire conversation consisted of my dad yelling in the back ground about why his pictures weren't in his hand! And that he wanted them NOW! He was acting like a child! I wasn't going over there at 9pm, I wasn't going to mess with the pictures at all last night! So I told my mom that and hung up! (For those of you that don't know me in real life, that is a HUGE step for me...the old me would have gone!)
This morning I was out of the house before 8am, I had lots of errands to run! Mr. K and I are going to be all over the state this weekend, well sorta! Tomorrow we are going to see B & D, in Dallas. Friday we are going to Grenville (North of Dallas) and then back to B & D's. Sunday we are getting up early and driving to Bryan/College Station for Mr.K's family Reunion/Get to Gather...and hopefully back home Sunday night! But who knows, anything could happen!
I'm just excited to be a way for a few days! Plus I love Dallas, actually I love any part of Texas that is NOT Houston!

I'm a criminal...who knew!

In December I lost my job, and for the better part of the past 5 months I have been diligently looking for a new one...with no luck! I have gotten a few calls, but not as many as I figured I would get! Last week I decided to apply for a substitute teaching position, at least that way I would have a pay check! Or so I thought!
But I got a phone call the next day and it went something like this:
HR woman: Have you ever lived in Oklahoma?
Me: No, I have lived in Texas all my life.
HR: Have you ever visited Oklahoma?
Me: No.
HR: So there is no reason you would have committed a felony in Oklahoma?
Me: Um...NO! No reason at all.
HR: Well there is a woman in Oklahoma that has committed two felony's, you have the same name and birth date! However I see that Hall is your married name, would you mind telling me how long you have been married?
Me: I got married last August. I have been a Hall for less than a year!
HR: OK, well thank you for clarifying, I will resubmit your application. You shouldn't have anything else to worry about!

Come to find out a woman with my same married name and birth date committed several felony's, in Oklahoma in 2001 and 2002. No one has given me specifics but apparently the crimes are pretty bad, and truthfully I don't want to know the details!

Yesterday I got a letter from the company that provided the review to the school district...which said if you have any questions about your report to call. So I immediately called, and I had to leave a message...I hate calling a place of business and having to leave a message! Luckily someone called back pretty quickly. And they told me to call the Oklahoma Courts! The worst part of the whole situation is that apparently more than a dozen other potential employers use this same reporting company...which explains why I have gotten so few calls!

I called the court and after jumping threw hoops on the phone, not only do they need my drivers license, SS card, Birth Certificate, and Marriage license I have to have my finger prints done!

What are the odds that I have the same name and birth date and name as a felon?

Have you wondered?

Have you ever wondered why I called my blog "What's Cooking...or NOT!"? Well a friend did and it occurred to me that some of you might want an answer to that question too.

For those of you that know me in real life you know that I LOVE to cook! I cook and bake almost every day! But I never wanted this blog to be about cooking, and it is not. It is just about me and my every day; the good, the bad, the real bad and everything in between! But why call it that you might ask...

When I returned to work I was very nervous, when I left two of my coworkers had just had babies (one had twins)! But 6 weeks later the one with twins was no longer with the company and the other had been promoted, she went from being my friend to being my boss, and the transition didn't go so well! But I got there early that morning sat down at my desk and started to go threw what I had missed in the past 6 weeks...and boy had I missed a lot! About 30 minuets in my phone rang, "no big deal, I can do this" I told my self. So I answered and it was a client that had been working with before I left! Oh good, I thought, she will know. She won't ask about my pregnancy, life will just go on! WRONG! The conversation went something like this:

me: How is the house coming along?
her: Forget about the house, how are those babies your cooking in that tummy of yours!
me: (my mouth is hanging wide open) Well umh, it's not...
her: What do you mean? I know your cooking...your not due for a few more months, no one has said anything about you since you have been gone, I really need to know!

At this point I am sobbing and looking to my coworker for help! So I asked the client to hold so I could gain my composure. I sat there for over ten minuets just crying, and everyone staring at me! Finally I calmed down enough to pick the phone back up. This is what I said:
"I am so sorry that no one in the gallery let you know that my pregnancy did not go as planned and today is my first day back at work after loosing my daughters. Thank you for your interest. How can I help you with your project?"
I spent an additional 30 minuets on the phone with her that morning, after which I hid in the ladies and cried. My coworkers never asked what had gone on, they just handed me a tissue.

I got home that night and instead of fixing dinner, I went to bed. I did not cook or bake for over a month. I couldn't...I did not even want to go into the kitchen. About six weeks after I returned to work a package arrived for me at the office, it was from the client I had spoken to my first day back. Inside the box was a lovely note (apologizing for her behavior), a cookbook (all about chocolate) and an apron! When I called to thank her for her generosity she asked if I would meet her for lunch, which I did. We sat an talked for over an hour, she explained that she and her husband had lost two children many years ago when they were first married. And she was shocked at herself for being so adamant about my pregnancy.

When I went home that night, I cooked up a storm . I don't know why but I felt better! So a few months later when I sat down to start this blog...that's what I called it! It fit and it made since, well to me!

Patio Party Here We Come!

So Mr. K & I live just to the Southeast of Houston, and last year we had a hurricane! Ike made it's way to our coast just a few days after The Girl's were born and long before the announcements went out Mr. K and I made our way North to The Old Man's (Mr.K's Dad)! But during the hurricane our patio cover was blown far far away! It really wasn't a bad thing...it was pretty old and we wanted a new one, so in a way it was a blessing!

But last weekend, the patio construction company was finally able to come out and put up a new patio cover! I know it seams silly but I have missed having a patio, even the old one! But now I have a New Big Fancy Patio! We have had breakfast and dinner out there the past few days and it was wonderful!! Here are a few pictures of our new patio!

Now all I need is a new Patio Table and then we can have a Patio Party!

Friday, Saturday & Sunday

So after our mosquito filed day on Thursday we made our way down to the beach on Friday! And boy did we have fun...it was overcast but still fun! On the way down to the beach, we saw the most beautiful old cemetery full of wildflowers! We walked around for over an hour, some of the graves were from the 1700's...even before Texas became a state! I wish my pictures could show the true beauty, but they don't!
After that we went to the Seawall and ate our lunch, and the clouds finally started to lift! Before the hurricane last year there was actual beach up and down the seawall but now there are only a few sections that still have beach front!

When we finished our lunch we made our way to a section with some beach, and on the way I got the only picture of B&D together for the entire weekend! And yes I know it is of there backs!! But it is still cute!

So we finally made our way down to the actual beach...woowhoo! I attempted to wright Calypso's Name in the sand...it did not go as well as I hoped but it still looks OK!
The last activity of the day was the ferry ride...I haven't been on a big ferry in years (meaning on you can get our of your car)! So we went up to the top deck and watched...and we made a friend...

That little bird sat on top of that flag pole the entire time we were on the boat! WOW that was a long Friday!

Saturday we went to a Truck show...Mr.K was in charge of the camera...and I am guessing my the pictures he really wants to turn his little truck in to a project truck...this could be bad, we already have several project cars! His pictures are pretty consistent...truck, truck, truck! I think I am in trouble!

Sunday B&D left EARLY! And Mr.K and I went to the local farmers market...they grow all of there fruits and vegetables out behind the building and this year they are letting you go and pick your own strawberries! And pick we did! We ended up with 10lbs of strawberries! I have already made strawberry bread, strawberry pie and strawberry preserves! This afternoon I am going to make a strawberry cake too! Wow! Just so you know I LOVE strawberries!

And I might LOVE strawberries, but don't let Mr.K fool you...

he had a GREAT time!

And there is one more EXCITING part of our weekend, but it will wait until this afternoon...this post is much much to long!
